The PG
department of Social Work from its inception in the year 2001 has been
committed to grooming and educating professionals for Social Welfare and
Social Development. We envisage preparing the students to respond effectively
to the emerging social realities which call for qualified professionals, with
specialized knowledge and skills .
Objectives of the Course A. Knowledge- based Objectives • To help students understand the basic concepts, values, methods, ethics and processes of social work profession • To enable them to acquire knowledge for the assessment of, and interventions with, individuals, families, groups, communities, organizations and the state. • To facilitate understanding of the structure and functions of various social, economic and political institutions.

To develop
capacity in varied fields like community and social change Management,
medical and clinical settings, personnel management and labour welfare.
B. Value- based Objectives • To enable the students to acquire professional values such as respect for the dignity and worth of the human person, unconditional acceptance of, and concern for, their holistic well-being. • To enable the students to develop concern and commitment for the marginalized groups based on class, caste, gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation and ability. • To enable them to internalize the values of social justice, cultural pluralism, democratic participation and integrity of creation. C. Skill -based Objectives • To enable students to acquire the generic skills such as - Life skills - Organization- development and management. - Research and analysis - Program-planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation - Advocacy, networking and public policy interventions. • To develop skills for solving the problems in working with individual, family, groups and communities through field practicum.` • To enable students to develop their capacity to relate theory to practice and also to relate experience to theory. |

9. Criteria for Admissions
MSW is a two year PG course (Four
Semesters). Any graduate with minimum marks of 45% aggregate (SC / ST 40%) is
eligible for the admission in St Aloysius College for MSW Course.

admissions to the candidates below 60% aggregate marks in degree.
